Crochet Hat

This one's pretty simple. I have to wear hats in bright sunlight b/c I have chronic migraines. I only had one hat and I was learning to crochet. So I found a hat pattern. I know most people stick with straight things to learn, but after teaching myself to knit from a book, crocheting was super super easy for me.

Halloween Costume 2011

I came up with this idea for a Halloween costume for Alma with a little help from a friend. Her son wanted to be Cookie Monster for Halloween so I decided to make Alma Elmo. Especially since he LOVES Elmo.

Another friend of mine reminded me that I had the fuzzy fleece. It looks amazing, but it's a pain in the butt to cut b/c you have to use an exacto knife to do it (so you don't mess up the fur). I cut myself a couple times. I had to fold the fur into the seams so it wouldn't gum up my machine. The hood has snaps so it comes off, and the eyes are foam balls I got from the dollar store. I just used a sharpie to color pupils and then glued them together before I glued them on (it took extra glue b/c of the fur).

We went to our church 'trunk or treat' and everyone asked if he was a 'tickle me' Elmo! It was a big hit!

Shorts for Alma

It was the beginning of the summer and I quickly realized that Alma didn't have enough pairs of shorts. So I went to work. I cut up some jeans I had from various sources and took the cute star/heart patches from a jumper that was too short on me.

The coolest thing about the clothes I've made for Alma is that I've only used one pattern for them all. It's a pajamas pattern and I traced all the sizes so I'll be able to use it for quite some time. It's very versatile and the pants/shorts fit over cloth diapers! Love it!

Throw Pillows

Same place I got the Thomas fabric, I also got a bunch of quilt squares. There were some pretty fabrics so I set aside my favorites and figured eventually I'd find  a use for them.

Well my back was hurting me bad one day when I realized that we didn't have any throw pillows for our couch. So I grabbed some coordinating fun quilt squares and made a pillow out of them while I was at a friend's house. She suggested the flower button which was just the right touch. I wound up making a second one and we love them.                            My husband says we'll have to bring them when we buy a new couch so they match!

Thomas Fabric

Someone in my church was having a small moving sale and wanted to get rid of some fabric. I had a bit of extra money, so I went to check it out and found some Thomas the Train fabric. Lucky me since my son Alma ADORES Thomas. So I made him a shirt out of it. He loves it. If I leave it lying around when I take it off him, he'll put it on his head.
So there was more fabric there than I thought. Finally I got an idea: Alma  has a Pooh pillow with ruffles on it that he likes. So I decided to make a pillow with the extra fabric. I decided on the red polka dot for a ruffle and backing. Apparently I have a good eye because somehow it highlights the pillow and looks            awesome! Yay me! Now if I could just figure out what to do with the last bit...
